El Escondite de Pedro Malillo is a 20-hectare estate in Candeleda, on the south face of the Sierra de Gredos, built around 12 independent villas.
Each group stays in its own house, with its own outdoor space and private pool. There is no reception or corridor neighbours: you arrive, park by your own door, and for a few days the place is yours.
We also have 3 rural apartments near the Sanctuary of the Virgen de Chilla, about 3 km away, and Villa Alardos in a separate location, about 20 minutes away. Neither is part of the main estate.

Candeleda

Candeleda lies in the south of the province of Ávila, at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos. It is the gentle face of the sierra: mild microclimate, fig trees and paprika, stone streets with mountains right behind.
The estate is 3.5 km from the village, on the Camino Chilla. From Madrid it is about 185 km, roughly two hours by car, just enough for a weekend country getaway to make sense.
It is a good option for anyone looking for rural accommodation in Candeleda with real space: nature all around and the village a quarter of an hour away.

Besides the villas, we have 3 rural apartments —Romero, Tomillo and Lavanda— in the Chilla area, near the Sanctuary of the Virgen de Chilla, about 3 km from the villas' estate.
They are not within the 20 hectares: they are a different place and a different scale. Stone, wood and their own patio, for two people or a small family.

How we think about the houses
We didn't want to make
rental houses
We have always thought about the houses in a simple way: putting into them what we ourselves would want to find on arrival. Good beds, a real kitchen, shade to sit in and silence.
That's why every villa is prepared and cared for as if it were for us. We don't try to make them all look alike, but rather to make each one work well for whoever comes: two people, a large family or eighteen friends.

Staying in Candeleda with space of your own
Candeleda is one of the places where the Sierra de Gredos turns gentle: facing south, with a mild climate for much of the year and mountains in view from almost anywhere. Our 12 villas sit within a private 20-hectare estate, 3.5 km from the village, and each one is independent: you arrive, and you have your own door, your own garden and your own pace.
The difference from an ordinary rural house lies in the surroundings. There is no house right next to another, no neighbours sharing a pool: each villa is separated by holm oak woodland, with its own access and outdoor area. See all villas.
Villas with private pool and garden
All the villas have a private, seasonal pool; all have an outdoor area. It's the part that changes a summer stay the most: breakfast outside, lunch outside, and children going in and out of the water without anyone having to watch over a shared space. Villa Las Cuadras is the exception, without its own pool, and this is stated on its page.
A rural getaway from Madrid
From Madrid it is about 185 km, roughly two hours by car. It's a comfortable distance for a long weekend: you leave in the afternoon, arrive in time for dinner, and by the next day you're already in the sierra. It's also a good option for long weekends, Easter and summer, when the pool and the shade of the holm oaks are especially welcome.
For couples
If there are two of you, Villa Los Rosales and Villa La Palmera are the estate's small houses: one bedroom, a porch, a pool and nothing else around. They work as well for an anniversary as for disappearing for a couple of days with no plan.
For families
The mid-sized houses, for four to nine guests, are designed for families: bedrooms spread out, enough bathrooms, a spacious living room and an outdoor area where children can tire themselves out. Villa El Arroyo, in addition, is entirely on one floor, which helps with small children or grandparents.
Villas for large groups in Gredos
For groups, Villa Alardos sleeps up to 18 with nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms and is in a separate location, about 20 minutes from the main estate. On the estate, Villa Candelaria and Villa El Bosque sleep up to 16; larger groups can book several estate villas at once. See capacities by house.
What to do in the Sierra de Gredos
You can walk around the estate itself or head up into the sierra, swim in the mountain streams and the Rosarito reservoir, go cycling, ride horses, paddle a canoe or play golf and padel nearby. And there are visits worth a morning: the Sanctuary of the Virgen de Chilla, the Castro Vetón de El Raso, the Cuevas del Águila or the Monasterio de Yuste, already on the Extremadura side. Rural apartments in Chilla
Besides the villas, we have 3 rural apartments in the Chilla area, about 3 km from the estate, near the sanctuary. They are smaller accommodations, of stone and wood, for two people or a small family. See the Chilla apartments.
Weddings and gatherings
